Walking

Northumberland is a region that is famed for walking and has received international recognition as a fantastic place to enjoy the British country side. The area provides walking opportunities for people of all abilities. Short circular walks can be an entertaining couple of hours for family group or for older people. Those who want a more challenging experience can take a hike across moors that may take days if you wish. Many of the established routes in and around Northumberland have a historical context. Hadrian's Wall is a famous and ancient wall that was designed to protect Roman Britain from the tribes to the North, now Scotland. The wall runs from Wallsend on Tyne to the West cost of Cumbria and will take at least a week to complete.
